Cummins, Inc. Strengthens Elkhart County Communities Through Impact Kit Projects
Elkhart, IN - In 2025, Cummins, Inc. employees demonstrated the power of service through two large-scale community impact projects benefiting children, families, and organizations across Elkhart County.
With coordination support from Crossroads United Way, Cummins team members assembled 500 hygiene kits that were distributed to Concord Community Schools, GymTown Pantry, Faith Mission, Center for Healing and Hope, and Guidance Ministries. The kits included a reusable tote bag, toiletries, first aid supplies, and other essential items, along with a personalized note of encouragement written by Cummins employees. The kits were picked up ahead of the holidays and New Year, providing timely support during a season when household budgets are often stretched.
Earlier this year, Cummins staff also packed 500 backpacks filled with school supplies geared towards elementary and middle grade students in Elkhart, Middlebury, Nappanee, and Baugo Community School Corporation, helping ensure students had the tools they needed to succeed in the classroom.
“What makes these projects so meaningful is the people behind them,” said Jill Yoder, Director of Engagement and Volunteerism at Crossroads United Way. “Cummins employees showed up with generosity and our community partners ensure these kits are placed into the hands of those who need them most. With 44% of Elkhart County households living at or below the ALICE threshold, efforts like this help families stretch limited resources, preserve dignity, and meet basic needs.”
Cummins’ commitment to hands-on service reflects a broader investment in the well-being of the communities where their employees live and work. By partnering with Crossroads United Way and local agencies, Cummins helped turn collective effort into meaningful and lasting impact.
