United Way’s Day of Caring Returns to Steuben County as First-Ever Regional Event Unites Four Counties

Community volunteers will serve in Elkhart, LaGrange, Noble, Steuben counties on Oct. 16

Angola, IN — October 13, 2026 — Crossroads United Way's signature Day of Caring event is returning to Steuben County on Friday, Oct. 16, while also making history as the organization's first-ever regional Day of Caring spanning all four counties it serves.

More than a day of volunteerism, Day of Caring brings together local businesses, community members and nonprofit organizations to complete meaningful service projects that strengthen communities and support local needs.

This year's event will feature volunteer teams serving in Elkhart, LaGrange, Noble and Steuben counties at projects submitted by Crossroads United Way partner agencies and community organizations.

For Steuben County, the event marks a welcome return. Prior to Crossroads United Way and United Way of Steuben County joining forces in 2025, the county’s most recent Day of Caring was held in spring 2024.

"As our first regional Day of Caring, we're excited to connect volunteers across all four counties while also bringing this meaningful tradition back to Steuben County.", Bill Purcell, CEO/President of Crossroads United Way

Volunteer teams include employees from Cameron Memorial Community Hospital, Böllhoff, EXO-s , Northwest Bank, and Crossroads United Way Board Members who will spend the day assisting with hands-on projects that support local organizations and improve community spaces.

The projects were selected through an application process that invited funded partners and community organizations to identify volunteer needs that could be completed during Day of Caring.

Crossroads United Way extends its gratitude to the businesses, organizations and volunteers making the event possible, as well as the local agencies and nonprofits that submitted project applications.

Day of Caring is part of United Way's longstanding commitment to mobilize the caring power of community to improve lives and advance the common good.
